Tell me more about noninvasive fat reduction.
Fat reduction is often performed through a surgical procedure such as liposuction. However, noninvasive fat reduction is a way to eliminate unwanted fat without surgery. It doesn't require you to go “under the knife”.

UltraShape® is a form of noninvasive fat reduction that uses therapeutic ultrasound energy to disperse fat cells so that they can be processed by the body's natural physiological systems. It does not harm surrounding nerves, muscle, collagen or other tissue in the targeted area.

Is UltraShape® safe?
Yes. UltraShape® was approved by Health Canada in May 2007. It is currently used in over 50 countries around the world.

The treatment targets fat cells and does not harm surrounding tissues. The triglycerides that are released from disrupted fat, which are then broken down into free fatty acids and glycerol, are processed by the liver in the same way as fat derived from food. Released triglycerides do not significantly accumulate in the liver or blood according to clinical trials and studies.

Who is UltraShape® designed for?
UltraShape® is designed for average to modestly overweight men and women who want to get rid of fat that doesn't respond well to regular exercise and diet. It is not a way to lose weight. You BMI must be below 30 to be treated.

UltraShape® is not suitable for those who are underweight or obese. It may also not be appropriate for people with specific hereditary diseases, high cholesterol, or cardiac disease.

What areas can I get treated?
UltraShape® focuses on the abdomen, flanks, hips and thighs.

Is anesthesia required?
No. The procedure is virtually painless and many patients have described it as being a comfortable experience.

I want to go for it. How do I start?
Just call or email us to get the ball rolling! We'll arrange a free consultation for you to see a medical professional. During the consultation, you'll talk about your goals and expectations and find out more about UltraShape®. You'll also be able to explore other body contouring alternatives that may achieve the results you want. Since UltraShape® has been designed for people who are average to slightly overweight, your BMI will be calculated.

Once it's been determined that UltraShape® is appropriate for you, a session will be booked. If time is available, you may be able to have a session on the same day!

Describe the procedure.
First, photos are taken of the area(s) you'd like to have treated so that you may see your progress. The area(s) are measured and marked.

The actual treatment involves a handheld device that delivers ultrasonic energy over the area.

The device is equipped with advanced tracking technology so that the resulting contour in the treated area is smooth and even. As the transducer passes over the body, there may be a light tingling sensation or warmth. It has been described as being comfortable.

How long does a session take?
The length of treatment depends on the extent of correction desired and the number of areas targeted. It can take anywhere from 1 to 1.5 hours.

When I go back to work or other normal activities?
Because there is no downtime, you may return to normal activities immediately after a session.

Do I need follow up sessions?
No follow up sessions are required. Treatments may be repeated if more fat accumulates.

When do the results appear?
An improvement in the area treated generally appears about 3 weeks after a session. Because your body naturally processes the disrupted fat cells, the time may vary depending on your body and lifestyle. It is recommended that a healthy lifestyle is followed to obtain and maintain ideal results.

How are the results?
Clinical trials have shown that a reduction of up to 10cm in the circumference of a treated area was achieved after three sessions.

How often do I need to undergo the UltraShape® procedure?
Typically, up to three treatments are required to achieve results. These are spaced about a month apart. After one area is treated, another area can be treated within the month.

Can this be performed in conjunction with other treatments?
This depends on what the other treatment is. UltraShape® may be performed following liposuction. For more information, please speak to our patient consultant.
